NATIONAL POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009

Vanessa Murby Powerlifting Champion

  The Powerlifting Australia / BSA National Championships were recently held at the Brisbane Mall on Saturday 28th March 2009.  Four blind and vision impaired athletes attended the tournament representing South Australia and Victoria.Vanessa Murby (Vic) and Lisa Pearce (SA) both competed in the 82.5kg class.  Vanessa won the event with a total lift of 287.5kg.  Lisa lifted a total of 195.0kg and came second.Phillip Menzies from Victoria competed in the 67.5kg class and lifted a massive total of 472.5kg.  His Dead Lift was nearly three times his own body weight at 192.5kg.         Anthony Clarke from South Australia lifted a total of 442.5kg in the 100.0kg class.     Vanessa Murby took out the Anthony Young Trophy for the most outstanding female lifter.  Phillip Menzies won the Remo Dee Trophy for the most outstanding lifter overall. 

ABBA WORLD BLIND BOWLS CHAMPIONSHIPS GLENROY AUSTRALIA

  Australia hosted the world blind bowls championship concluding on May 2nd. The home country Australia triumphed in an event. 11 Countries attended a well run event held at Glenroy in Victoria Australia

  The 2009 Australian Disability Ten Pin Championships were held at Sunshine Victoria in late May.  There was a large contingent of competitors and a matching number of spectators. People came from states as far away as Western Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland with South Australia, ACT, New South Wales and Victoria making up the complement.It was not unusual to find that on any one day at any one time several hundred people were in attendance. It was a fun filled event which saw all go away happy with a sense of fulfilment in being part of this their Fourth Annual Australian disability championships
